premise

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS. For years, the town was overrun with the Irish mob, otherwise known as the Connelly family. For years they run the criminal underground completely unchallenged by any outside force. Businesses cowed to the brothers who ran the streets for generations.

Enter the Marino family. A mafia family originated in Sicily, Italy, they had been running their American operations out of New York for more than a couple of decades. They got word that there was business to be had in Boston. The only problem was the Irish, and their bullheaded idea that it was "their turf" and theirs alone. The Marino family slowly began to set up shop. One brother still running things out of Sicily, another trusted family member left in charge in New York, the second Eldest Marino brother, Leonardo, moved his family down to Boston.

A series of events left the Marino and Connelly family fast enemies. Blood was shed on either sides, family members were lost, loyalties were split. The Montagues and Capulets had nothing on the Marino and Connelly family. Not a member from one side couldn't go anywhere near one from the other side without insults being thrown as a precursor to fists. It wasn't long before the bloodbath reached staggering heights, and even the FBI ordered to quell the violence had no handle on the feud.

A party benefiting the hospital. Big shots from both the Connelly and Marino families were there, earning credibility from the city officials. A storm. A blackout. Nobody knew who or what was lurking in the shadows of the pitch black hotel. Leonardo Marino, the very glue that held the hardcore Italians together, went like any good boss to find family members and collect his people. Then out of the darkness a man came, stabbing the Italian boss multiple times and leaving him for dead.

Leonardo Marino died that night after being airlifted to the nearest hospital, having sustained multiple internal injuries and massive blood loss. It is still unclear who ordered the hit that ended Leonardo Marino's life ... but the family is determined to find out exactly that. The Irish had counted it a win, though nobody copped to ordering the hit. The Italians were left rattled, shaken to the core with seemingly nobody entirely ready to step into the title of "boss". Carlotta Marino, the eldest sister of the Marino family and previously their sole legal counsel, stepped up. She would take over the Marino family's business affairs until her younger brother was conditioned and ready enough to take over himself. Now they just have to worry about the hierarchy crumbling beneath them, their enemies closing in, and if anyone decides they don't want to follow an organization who has lost their strongest leader. Simple, right?

NOTE: Only those who have direct connection to the MARINO family will be accepted. They have to somehow be involved with the family.

SUGGESTED CONNECTIONS [ suggested connections to get your characters into the game ]

  • FAMILY MEMBERS: cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles
  • SOLDIERS: hired muscle and trusted members of the "force" of the Marino organizations.
  • LEGAL: most, if not all will be working for Carlotta Marino's law firm in criminal defense. They are chief legal council to the Marino family.
  • ACCOUNTING: those who keep track of the money, the booking, who hide money in off shore accounts and make sure everything at least looks legitimate to the feds.
  • EMPLOYEES: club, restaurant, other business owners that are under direct employ of the Marino family. Chances are, the businesses serve as a front for more illegal activities.
  • RUNNERS: those who may or may not know exactly what they are doing for the family, but they know well enough not to ask questions. most of the runners for the Marino family have very few options otherwise, and the Marino family is giving them a way to make some quick and easy money.
